What is the production process of precision casting lost wax mold?

Publish Time: 2025-02-20
First, making a wax mold is the first step in lost wax casting. In this step, a precise wax mold is usually made by hand carving or pressing using beeswax or a mixed material. The wax mold needs to completely replicate the shape and details of the desired casting, which is the basis for the subsequent casting process.

Next, precision casting lost wax mold is an important step for complex castings or multi-part castings. If the casting consists of multiple parts or has a hollow structure, the wax mold is connected by wax rods or "wax trees" to ensure that the molten metal can fully fill all parts when pouring.

Then, making the shell is a key step to protect the wax mold and prepare for casting. The wax mold is dipped into a refractory slurry and this process is repeated many times to form a hard refractory shell, the "shell". This shell will protect the wax mold inside from being destroyed during the subsequent heating process.

Dewaxing is the next important step, in which the shell is heated, the wax mold melts and flows out, leaving an inner cavity space that is exactly the same as the wax mold. This space will become the place where the molten metal is poured.

Firing the shell is a process of high temperature heating in an oxygen-free environment, which is designed to strengthen the shell and remove residual wax. At the same time, this step also preheats the shell to prepare for the subsequent casting process.

Casting is the core step in the lost wax casting process. After the shell is fully preheated, molten metal (such as copper) is safely poured into the shell to fill the space left by the previous wax pattern. After the molten metal cools and solidifies, the desired casting is formed.

Finally, post-processing includes steps such as cleaning the shell fragments, grinding and polishing the casting. These steps are designed to remove impurities and uneven parts on the surface of the casting to obtain the final finish and quality.

The production process of precision casting lost wax mold includes steps such as making wax patterns, assembling wax patterns, making shells, dewaxing, firing the shell, casting and post-processing. Each step requires precise operation and strict control to ensure the quality and precision of the final casting.
